Met up with poly mates to celebrate Catherine's 23rd birthday. Yes, 23rd... now everyone knows her age... hehehe...

It is always so difficult to meet up with friends with my kinda job. Because I work shifts.

We were suppose to meet at 6.45pm but I reach at 7.15pm. NOT MY FAULT!

All thanks to SMRT. From my place, I needed to take a bus to the train station. What happened was that the buses came full! TWO BUSES CAME FULL! From my understanding, the fare hike that was approved recently after GE2011 was to increase transport efficiency, e.g. manpower and up the numbers of trains and buses. Well, this always happens, just talks.. SMRT is really SMART!

Enough of that.

So I met up with Catherine, the birthday girl, ah hui, ah yia, paul, daniel, yong wee (aka jian yi) and jun wen.

Camwhore while ordering food. So me right? I know...

Bithday girl and her food.

Okay, my head appeared bigger because she want her head to be smaller so I had to position myself forward more -_-"

Oh, and I bought Kimchi from korea for them. We are at a Japanese restaurant called Ootoya .

Daniel, ah yia and ah hui with my KIMCHI!

Me, Cat, Yong Wee and Jun Wen

My food. Not that fantastic though.

That bo liao Yong Wee took my lens-less spec and camwhore~~
It makes me feel giddy looking at this pic. Don't you?

End off with another pic with the birthday girl.

I love this pic and the above one with the rainbow effect... <3

National Day Parade 2011
---------------------------

9 Aug 2011

My first parade LIVE! At Marina float! How cool is it. I am also the one and only person in my family who has gotten the tickets! I chose to ballot for only 4 tickets. I gave 2 to my brother and I kept 2 for myself. A friend and I. He/she said not to mention name!!

The freaking weather still hot and humid. The place where we sit is under the sun!

So Singaporean! See all the umbrellas. Cannot blame them, it is really hot and sunny. Thankfully, the sun is gonig down.

My FUNPACK! Majulah! Merlion FTW!

Where is Universal Studios Singapore?

In Resort World Sentosa... The Advertisement made everything look so nice.

Air Patrol

This section was supposedly the funpack song section. However it was removed due to copy right issue. THANKFULLY! I am not saying it is a bad idea. Having a funpack song is cool, it engages the audience with the funpack. Changing the lyrics of a popular song with such corny words, seriously? I think we are more than capable to write an original funpack song. That would be a much better idea, wouldn't it?

Wave your flags Singapore!

Mine!

This kid sits in front of me. Look at his tee-shirt!

Self painted!

The Red Lions~~~

Wooooo~~~~ Yea~ (If you get me)

Crisis!

They made everything made look so simple. I can tell you that EVERY Singapore son whom has gone through NS will say it is not that easy.

Night scene and firework!

Last but not least~~

It is really different watching the parade Live and from TV. When watching it Live, I can feel the patriotism vibe, all the goosebump. It is crazy. This year's performance make me feel weird. Sharon Aw's character reminds me of my mom, all the hardship she went through last time. I cannot imagine her leaving (you know what I mean), I would die of heart break!

MOMMY I LOVE YOU!

Majulah Singapore~

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the mean time.....

Recently, I have been think alot about my job.

Okay, Let me just tell you about my job first.

I work at a particular casino in Singapore (think you already know which one) as customer service for membership. So I do shift work. My job is to do member aquisition, process membership application, sell levy (the money ($100/$2000) that Singaporean/PRs pay to go into casino), sell show tickets, sell USS tickets and some adhoc duties.

Well, it is a high paying job, for a diploma holder, I consider this high paying. What else is there?

Career opportunity? Seriously, I do not know. Is this a job? Or is this a career?

Before coming here to work, I actually verbally accepted a offer from mediacorp as Casting Executive pays $1.7k. Normal pay for a diploma holder. Then came the offer from casino, offering much more. I have decided to go to the casino.

I love production, media etc. Why did i chose my current job over media job?

I need the money to pay off my study loan. My mom's CPF, DBS loan and Poly loan. Each month I service a total of $600. By end of the year, I should be able to finish paying off all of them. Latest my Jan 2012, I think.

So for now, I am stuck here.

To be fair, my current job is not bad. High paying (for diploma), wih 13th month bonus, variable bonus, meet many people (the nasty, the nice, the stupid, the funny) etc. However, I do not see myself being able to climb the corporate ladder. Not because I am not capable but many other factors.

And I was very unhappy, still am, with my last year performance appraisal. It is a long story so I will just cut it short. The appraisal score, 5 is high and 1 is low. I got a 2! BELOW AVERAGE! HOW CAN I BE BELOW AVERAGE? I am a above average worker! I raised my doubts and unhapiness. but apparently HR still direct me back to my manager, who said she did fight for me. TOTAL BULLSHXT. This affect my bonus and my increment. I am not shy to say a casino givng their staff an increment of $10. They should be ashamed of it.

Now that I am going to finish servicing my loans. I should be considering my next step.

Wait for promotion? Move on to other job/career? I really have no clue where I should step.

My concern:

- comfortable here because of the pay, more so when I am going to finish paying of my loans, $600 more for me to spend!

- media industry needs experience, will I make it?

- there will definitely be a pay drop if I jump to media industry. The max I can drop is $600.

- going to new environment, leaving my comfort zone.

Anyone to advice me? Comments? Even better, job offer? Haha..

Stay tuned for next entry on NDP!

Are we Singaporeans really good at complaining? Are we too fussy? Are we too spoilt?

When is the right time to complain (feedback)?

I am believe in feedback, but I do not feedback on every single litle things like "why is my chocolate milk tea not chocolaty enough".

There are a few situation I will do it.

1 - Time

If I was told to wait for 5 mins, I expect he/she get back to me within 10 mins. There was once I waited for super long and I literally scolded the person on the spot and emailed after.

What happened was I sent my SONYERICSSON phone to service centre for servicing. Was told to collect it on xx/xx/20xx. So i went down and took my queue no and waited. When it was my turn, they told me to wait for AWHILE, so I waited for about 10 mins, the person came back and told me my phone is not ready for collection.

I told them that I was told that it is ready fo collection else why would you guys call. The episode went on and after about 2 hours, I finally gotten back my phone.

I was actually going somewhere after that and because of this incident I had to take cab. Iwrote an email immediately after I got home and they called the next morning. Efficient? Maybe it is because of whom I CC-ed the email to.

2 - Quality

I was at WATAMI Ion or dinner with my friends. It was a busy day I suppose. We waited for sometime before we could get attention of the servers to take our orders. We waited for sometime before the food was served. It came COLD. LITERALLY! Not warm. And they forgot to bring us utensils. Again, it took sometime before we gotten our utensils. Disappointment again, because the utensils are not clean.

Immediately I took the dirty utensils and went straight to their manager. But he went to toilet, so I said I will wait. about 10 mins later he came to me asking me what's wrong. I told him about my experience for the whole night, waiting, cold food, slow attention, dirty utensils.

(Checking to ensure that the utensils are clean before handing out to the guest takes minimal effort and at most 5 seconds? I do not see the difficulty in that)

There are more... Lazy to elaborate.

On the other side.

Is our service standard low? Or is it our expectation too high?

It is my job to provide good customer service as well. I find that our service level is actually not as bad as we think. Alright, there are always bad eggs amongst the good ones. Even in Japan, Hong Kong, there will be bad eggs as well.

At times, It is the customer that make the service provider "pek chek". When we explain somethings to the guest, they do not really listen. They will then come back saying we did not tell them this or tell them that, thus bad service!

What nonsense is this?

I think service is a two way thing. You want people to serve you well, you gotta first be polite etc. Same as respect.

We don't owe you no shxt!

We had joy, we had fun!

Supposed to meet 0830 at Kallang MRT and MR LIM YI MING's late. So in the end, all late. Anyways, started briefing, like the different parts of the kayak, what is are the type of kayak, etc. Kinda boring, but I know they had to do it la.

Then we are all set and ready to go! Here's a picture taken for us by other FOREIGNER in our group! We are pretending that we are not locals!

See Clinton capsize!

Listening carefully to the instructors.

ACT HARDWORKING! Haven't start paddling lo!

Resting, while waiting for other to catch up!

Here they come! No wonder so slow! Lynn is resting. Clinton is clueless! Muahahaha!

Clinton hurried his paddle into the water to pretend! While Lynn just posed!

Why are Joel and Lydia paddling on two different side? No team work! Negative demo!

Ok. He gave up.

NDP rehearsal!

Resting. Clinton trying very hard to get out. Stuck!!!

Lydia enjoys watching Clinton struggling to get out of the kayak.

Lynn taking private lesson on holding the paddle.

Oh! Suddenly drizzle. Then rain. Then down pour. Cannot remember when was the last time I was in the rain. Definitely when I was in army. Enjoyed the rain!

Did not realise Cedric was taking picture, else I would have posed!

My hair looks ugly!

Joel caught resting and letting Lydia do all the paddling!

Group pic on the water!

Thanks "Fishy" for taking the pics!

Clinton getting ready to capsize...

We definitely had fun though it was tiring!

What's next?

I heard Paintball's coming up! Can't wait!
